Let me tell you about the most powerful change I made this year:
I started walking.
Yep. That’s it.
Every day, twice a day, 30 minutes.
No phone. No podcast. No deals.
Just me, a pair of shoes (Brooks Ghost), and silence.
How did I come up with such a genius breakthrough?
Well, it’s like everyone talks about time management, but few talk about energy management.
I started to pay attention to my moods throughout the week and how I felt at certain moments.
“Why am I feeling short and curt with others right now?”
“Why am I feeling ‘hangry’ right now?”
“Why am I feeling mentally foggy”?
So I contacted a professional nutritionist and had a bunch of labwork completed.
It was the best $300 I invested in myself in recent memory.
The results were incredible.
Not only did I learn about the specific foods my body didn’t do well with, BUT, understanding my stress levels throughout the day (this was done through an “Adrenal Stress Test”).
I learned that my brain was basically overheating and that I need to take more parasympathetic breaks.
“Para-who?!” lol
Yes, I thought the same thing, but it’s actually a really simple practice that is important for you and anyone you care about.
A parasympathetic break is a short, intentional pause in your day designed to activate the “rest and digest” part of your nervous system.
These intentional breaks help counteract stress by slowing down your heart rate, calming your mind and promoting recovery.
Some examples include:
At first, I thought it’d just help with stress.
But it ended up being the secret to:
✅ Better ideas
✅ Sharper focus
✅ Way more patience on tough files
Why?
Because when your nervous system is fried from structuring deals and juggling tasks, your brain can’t operate at a high level.
Intentionally taking these screenless breaks are game changers.
You will think better and through mindfulness we create breakthroughs.
Walking gave me space to actually decompress.
And in that space:
I found even more gratitude.
I came up with more creative ideas.
I became more intentional in how I lead and serve.
All because I gave myself a buffer from the chaos.
So no, this win wasn’t about loans.
This is about helping you become a high-performer.
And to show up bigger for yourself and others that need your best.
Take a moment to time block these two breaks in your calendar and remember:
Silence is golden.
