I was dead wrong about social media

|

May 24, 2025

Vintage typewriter surrounded by floating fragments in a dark, red-tinged environment.

For years, I ignored social media.

“Not my thing.”

“I’m not a content creator.”

“Nobody generates leads on it.”

“I’ll just stick to word of mouth.”

Sound familiar?

Let me tell you what happened:

A Loan Officer  friend of mine started posting twice a week.

Short videos.

Simple tips.

Just being helpful.

Within 3 months?

He had three quality Realtors approach HIM.

6 months?

A local business owner reached out about refinancing their primary residence (large jumbo loan, that he ended up closing).

Meanwhile…

I was in the trenches, wondering how I was going to meet new Realtors.

I was wrong about social.

It’s not about likes.

It’s not about going viral.

It’s about visibility.

It’s about positioning.

It’s about “pre-suading”.

It’s about being top of mind when someone thinks:

“It might be time to buy a home.”

In other words: winning those points-of-thought.

Now I post regularly across various platforms.

And here’s my simple framework:

✅ 1 story (personal or client win)

✅ 1 tip (what every buyer needs to know)

✅ 1 call to action (DM me for XYZ)

That’s it.

I’ve had more warm leads and quality connectios come through DMs in a quarter than cold calls I made in a year.

Get visible.

Get known.

You don’t need to go viral -- you just need to be present.

Social Media (ahem, Business Media) works.
