The open loops robbing your peace (and your productivity)

I don’t know who needs these reminders right now, but:
- Go answer that email you've read three times and still haven't responded to.
- That uncomfortable conversation you've been putting off with a Realtor, a team member, a client? Go have it.
- Go finally do that task you've been meaning to knock out for two weeks.
- Send the follow-up you told someone you'd send Monday.
- And RSVP for that wedding you keep meaning to.
These are open loops, and every one of them is taking rent-free space in your head.
You feel it as low-grade anxiety, like fatigue that doesn't make sense given how much you actually did today and as that vague sense that you're behind on something but can't quite name what.
That's your brain running background processes on every unresolved thing you've left hanging.
And it's exhausting.
Q4 starts in five days. You don't want to walk into your biggest quarter of the year with a mental hard drive full of unfinished business.
So this week, before Monday hits, do this.
Sit down for one hour. Not two or "when I have time." One hour, put it on your calendar right now.
Pull up every place you've got open loops.
- Your inbox
- Your text messages
- A task list.
- The mental sticky note you keep meaning to write down and never do.
Write them all down, and I mean every one of them, then close as many as you can in that hour.
Some of these will take two minutes, some will take twenty, but most of them will take less time than you've spent thinking about them.
The relief is immediate, even if the task was painful to do.
I promise you'll physically feel lighter, your energy will come back, and you'll walk into the next thing on your calendar actually present instead of half-distracted by the seven things you owe other people.
The people who move fast in Q4 aren't necessarily working harder, they're just carrying less.
They close things quickly and move on, they don't let three-day-old emails become three-week-old emails, and they don't let one uncomfortable conversation become a month of avoidance. We’re too old for that sh*t!
Finish what you start, or consciously decide to drop it. Either way, it's not open anymore.
That's the whole game.
Don't let September's leftovers become October's baggage.
